Excellent PQ and Sony built finish

I am one of those guys who reads user reviews and professional reviews and forums on a product before I buy them. For this TV, I went and checked it out in person at two different locations.

I rarely write reviews but I feel like I should “give back” to the community after all these years.

I got the 70″. I am one of those many who waited months for the Vizio M701d. None of the local stores have the Vizio so I can’t comment on how this Sony compares to it. The forums on the Vizio did scare me away. And when the sale on the Sony made it $400 cheaper than the Vizio, it was a simple decision.

TV Box came in within the time window I asked for. TV box was not damaged. After playing with some of the suggested settings from the Sony forum, the picture looks stunning. Don’t expect all cable HD channels to look equally stunning as your Avatar Bluray. So don’t freak out if the PQ drops for those broadcast/streaming content. After all, the screen IS that much bigger. Any imperfection WILL be that much more magnified.

I am not a videophile. I did not look too hard for light bleeding or clouding or uneven lighting or dirty screen effect. I looked for them but I did not spent hours looking for them. There are minor light bleeding on the left edge but that was only visible when I was switching input source. Hardly something I would consider a deal breaker.

Overall, I love the TV. I got a firmware upgrade a few hours after I plugged in the LAN cable. I have only had it for a day. So far, so good.

Great TV for the price

I bought this TV at a Sony store since it went on sale (price was only slightly higher than the current price on amazon). I did quite a bit of research on similarly priced and sized TVs (Panasonic, Sharp, Samsung, LG, Vizio) and this is basically the best one out of the bunch (IMHO) due to price, quality and features. Worked well out of the box with PS3 attached.

Passive 3D was pretty impressive (btw, these TV use passive 3D IPS panels manufactured by LG; the same guys that make screens for Apple products i.e. iphones, imacs, etc.). The TV came with 4 pairs of glasses. Color was great even with manufacturer settings as some of the other reviewers have stated. The black color is comparable to those on a plasma TV.

Thought Sony was down for the count when it came to TVs, but they managed to exceed expectations on this one. I would highly recommend it. 

Excellent TV

I was debating between samsung 8000 series and this TV. Former is about 7K. After reading the reviews for this tv I took the plunge and am I happy that I did that!. This is an excellent TV. Price is really good also. Picture quality is superb, I did not have to tweak any settings (as opposed to Sharp, which I was contemplating, where again and again common theme had been to tweak the settings). “Soap Opera effect” is there but not really bothersome (to me). My only gripe, if I may, is that the processor is a bit slow and it takes may be a few seconds more to load internet content (not a deal breaker by any means). Finally Amazon never fails to meet my expectations. delivery was on time and superb, the guys set it up in no time (no extra cost).

Beyond What I expected

For those rating this set below 4, don’t blame shipping problems or vendor problems on the TV. I have used many sizes and types of TVs from Friends houses. Although I was not impressed when I saw this at HH Greg, all the TVs there of any size had the same issues with motion and ghost images. The Sony did a bit better than the others, but still was hoping the image was better. Read hundreds of reviews. The people rating it poor stated it came in damaged after they opened the box 6 months later. How can that be a Manufacture problem. When you buy it, always open and check it. Some people complained of a slow remote.

The remote at the store was slow, but with out any 300 devices looking for or sending out commands, this TV preformed very well, not slow to me. Starting up the TV took a few extra seconds, IT IS A 70″ MONSTER, what did you expect! The first 1080P movie I put up on was WOW, no motion issues, no ghosting images and that was on a Broadcast station. Like all remotes, they take time to get use to, after time I knew where each button was while in the dark. The Blacks/whites and colors stood off the screen. 3D was fantastic. The only thing I did not like about it was the stand. It is a U shaped stand, would have been better as a completed metal on all 4 sides. I chose the Bravia to match my other Bravia devices and Glad I did.

If you was quality, great picture and a good price – This IS the TV you want.

Do price shop though, as I found Best Buys was out of stock in their warehouse and all local stores. HH Greg had to order it in, and tried to get me to buy a different one, but beat Beat Buy price by $50. After looking at the box size and packing, I would not suggest having this shipped to you.

I Really like this TV
First of all there is an on/off button on the TV, YEAH!!! The picture is clear and I do notice the HD which generally was not important to me. I do my streaming on Amazon and looking up TV programs and movies is set up very user friendly on this Smart TV. I have an older LG Smart TV and the set up to stream is not as user friendly as this TV.

Great TV, Great Price!
I am extremely happy with this TV. I only use it via the Smart TV capabilities, and haven’t had any issues. Logging into my streaming apps took some time initially, but it works wonderfully. Great picture!

THE ONE TO BUY!

I did my research and decided on this LG. I was in a Taco Mac the other day and realized that all 36 TVs they had were LG! Then I read the reviews. I have had it now for 2 weeks. It replaced a Magnavox that was 3 years old. Picture just wasn’t up to par. This LG is great! Super sharp picture and the Smart TV aspect is super! It’s has the wireless internet, it immediately found my signal and hooked up. We watch a lot of NetFlix’s movies and it’s just so simple to access them!! The speakers in the set are the weak point. I thought I could hook it up to a receiver I had for my surround, nope! It is an old system and did not have the proper connection for the Set. Not a problem, I went back and purchased the LG Sound Bar with the wireless sub. WOW! It sounds better than when I had my old surround hooked up! Spend the money and get the sound bar too! You will love the combination…I do!!

Tremendous Value
After doing plenty of research, while trying to stick to a budget, I decided to go with the LG 50LN5700. I couldn’t be more pleased. I was able to purchase the TV for $720. The picture is brilliant and the TV is loaded with features. The wireless connectivity provides access to loads of content. Just a great TV for the price point.
